The Nigeria women’s cricket team won bronze at the ongoing 2023 African Games after they defeated their Ugandan counterparts.

Nigeria won the toss and opted to bowl first but began the game on the back foot losing three wickets within the first three overs but managed to bounce back thanks to Salome Sunday and Abigail Igbobie.

At the end of the game, Nigeria recorded 58 runs for 5 wickets in 16.2 overs, sealing the historic bronze medal win with 7 runs from 6 deliveries despite 3 wickets to spare.

Salome’s impressive performance in the bronze medal game earned her the ‘Player of the Match’ award.

Nigeria currently sits second in the 13th African Games medal table with 54 medals in total, including 22 gold medals, 13 silver medals, and 19 bronze medals. Egypt occupies the top position with 103 medals.
