The Ekiti Assembly has applauded Governor Biodun Oyebanji for implementing policies and executing a transformation agenda that cares for the yearnings of pensioners, senior citizens and public servants across the state.

The chairman, House Committee on Public Service Matters, Establishments and Human Capital Development and the minority leader of the House, Oladele Ogunsakin, gave the commendation during the two-day oversight activities of the committee on ministries, departments, agencies, and commissions in the state.

The two-day working visits allowed the chairman and committee members to interface with the bureaucrats in the Civil Service Commission, Local Government Service Commission, Office of the Head of Service, House of Assembly Service Commission, Ministry of Capacity Development and Reforms, and Ministry of Wealth Creation & Employment, among others, all in Ado Ekiti.

Mr Ogunsakin said various intervention programmes and policies of the administration of Mr Oyebanji had positively impacted people’s lives, particularly the public servants and pensioners.

He said the various programmes implemented by the government have gone a long way to cushion the effects of the economic hardship occasioned by the fuel subsidy removal.

Meanwhile, Mr Ogunsakin, representing Ekiti East Constituency 1, at various establishments visited by the committee, emphasised the position of sections 128 and 129 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as altered) regarding the conduct of legislative oversight and the procurement of evidence.

He reiterated that the committee would continue to engage the stakeholders regularly and noted that the present government would not leave the peculiarities in the service to the commissions alone. He urged public servants to reciprocate the good gestures of the governor.

In his comments, the Head of Service of Ekiti, Sunday Komolafe, said the public servants have been highly considered in the scheme of things.

He listed the achievements of the administration, including regular payment of salaries and pensions, increased funds for payment of gratuities and pensions, wage award, provision of palliatives, approval in principle of outstanding promotion in 2022/2023, digitalisation of data and records keeping in the civil service, among others.

In all the offices visited by the committee, vital issues relating to the welfare of workers were high on the agenda of discussions as the agencies used the occasion to commend the 7th Assembly for maintaining good relationships with other arms of government.

The chairman, House of Assembly Service Commission, Kayode Fasakin, thanked the Assembly for supporting the commission.

Similarly, his counterparts in the Local Government Service Commission and the Civil Service Commission, Samuel Abejide and Olubunmi Famosaya, all commended the Assembly for supporting the government so far.
