ABSU assures corps members of enhanced welfare packages

The management of Abia State University, Uturu, has assured the National Youth Service Corps members posted to the university of adequate accommodation and enhanced welfare packages.
The institution’s Vice-Chancellor, ABSU, Prof Onyemachi Ogbulu, gave the assurance during a courtesy visit by the corps members to his office on Friday.
Mr Ogbulu also promised to recommend corps members interested in securing teaching appointments in the university for retention having met the first requirement as first-class graduates in their various disciplines.
The vice-chancellor recalled that in his own service year, he was well treated by the host community.
He said he would prioritise the welfare of the corps members in line with the mandate of his administration to make staff and students’ welfare its top policy.
The Chief Inspector, NYSC, Hilda Azuike, while addressing the vice chancellor thanked the management for the warm reception.
Mrs Azuike, who is also the leader of the team, said their visit was to familiarise and strengthen their relationship with the institution.
She urged the vice chancellor to continue to prioritise the welfare and safety of the corps members deployed to the institution to get the best from them.
Mrs Azuike said that by paying their allowances, providing accommodation as well as other incentives to help them in their primary assignment, the corps members would be motivated to give their best.
A corps member, Augusta Oguzie, while giving the vote of thanks, appreciated the vice chancellor for his kind gestures and warm reception.
She pledged the corps members’ continuous support to the university as they carry out their primary assignment.
The event had the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academic, Prof Godwin Emezue, Deputy Vice-Chancellor Administration, Prof Ogbonna Onuoha, Registrar, Dr. Acho Elendu, and University PRO, Mr Chijioke Nwogu, were present at the event.
