Clerics urge politicians to fulfil campaign promises, lead selfless lives

The presiding pastor of Sanctuary of Christ Evangelical Church, Ibadan, Oyo State, Gbade Ojo, has urged political office holders to fulfil their campaign promises and lead a sacrificial life for the people.
Mr Ojo, a professor of political science, stated this while speaking with journalists about the significance of Easter in Ibadan on Sunday.
He also enjoined Christians to emulate Christ’s virtues of sacrifice and humility.
According to him, the essence of Easter, which symbolises the death, resurrection and ascension of Jesus Christ, is about humility and sacrifice.
“The Lord Jesus Christ came to the world to sacrifice Himself for the salvation of mankind. The greatest lesson of Easter is about humility and a life of sacrifice. Jesus sacrificed Himself for us to have salvation; He endured the pains and bore our sins.
“Easter is not about eating or wearing new clothes; it is to appreciate the sacrifice that Jesus Christ made for us. Our political leaders should learn how to lead a sacrificial life for the people who elected them into political offices,” he said.
Also speaking, the general overseer, Christ Apostolic Church Reformation Land (Ile Atunse), Ibadan, Prophet Timothy Arabambi, urged Christians to be holy, as Jesus Christ is holy.
He also enjoined politicians to imbibe the habit of being servants to the people they claimed to be serving.
“They (politicians) can do better. Since Christ died for us, people in government should also serve us; if they serve us well, we too will also serve them,” he said.
Mr Arabambi called for concerted efforts by the government to tackle the menace of kidnappings in some parts of the country. “If the government can tackle the menace of kidnappings in some parts of the country and there is security of lives and property, Nigeria will definitely have a better economy,” he said.
