Laos’ Ministry of Health has expressed its commitment to Family Planning 2030 (FP2030), a global initiative to ensure universal access to reproductive healthcare.

The National Commitment to Family Planning 2030 represents a pivotal step in Laos’ journey towards achieving universal access to sexual and reproductive health and rights by 2030, local media reported on Tuesday.

Under the framework of FP2030, Laos is committed to improving access to adolescent and youth-responsive health systems for contraceptive use and ensuring the availability of quality and safe youth-friendly services.

It would also improve access to family planning information to reduce the unmet need for family planning among adolescents and young people aged 15 to 24 to 12 per cent by 2030.

Other goals are to increase the availability of contraceptives and reproductive health commodities from 53 per cent to 100 per cent while increasing the family planning fund to support commodity availability at grassroots levels.
