A cross-section of Nigerians, including Muslim clerics, have called for peace and the sustenance of the lessons learnt during the month of Ramadan.

They gave the charge in different parts of the country in their various messages on Wednesday to commemorate the Eid-El-Fitr celebration.

In Okene, Kogi, Gov. Ahmed Ododo urged Muslims in the state to sustain the lessons learnt in the holy month of Ramadan.

He gave the advice while addressing journalists shortly after observing his prayer at Okene Eid-el Praying ground.

He said that the month of Ramadan was a month that teaches patience, empathy, love and understanding within and among the people.

“As we mark the end of this Ramadan, I urge each and everyone of us to carry forward the lessons learnt in this month of Ramadan.

He gave the advice while addressing journalists shortly after observing his prayer at Okene Eid-el Praying ground.

He said that the month of Ramadan was a month that teaches patience, empathy, love and understanding within and among the people.

“As we mark the end of this Ramadan, I urge each and everyone of us to carry forward the lessons learnt in this month of Ramadan.

“Let us continue to practise kindness, generosity, love and understanding in our daily life.

“The month of Ramadan teaches us to remember those that are less privileged among us and to enable us to extend hands of fellowship to those that are in need,” Mr Ododo said.

The governor commended President Bola Tinubu for his efforts, sincerity and purposeful leadership in bringing the country out of the present economic hardships.

Similarly in Gusau, Rep. Aminu Jaji called on his constituents to ensure unity and peace.

Mr Jaji representative Kaura-Namoda/Birnin-Magaji Federal Constituency in the National Assembly, and also chairman of the House on ecological fund, congratulated Muslims for witnessing the 2024 Eid-el-fitr festivals.

He called on the people of the constituency to continue to support the government’s measures aimed at restoring peace and stability in the state.

“We should always support the government’s policies and programmes towards the promotion of peace.

“Peace remains the most veritable foundation for the socioeconomic development of the nation.

“I am using this medium to call on Muslims to put into practice the lessons learnt during the holy month of Ramadan and the teachings of Prophet Muhammad”, the lawmaker said.

He said there was the need for Muslim faithful to intensify prayers for peace and stability across the country.

In the same vein, some local government chairmen in Lagos state sued for unity, love and peaceful coexistence among Nigerians to bring a brighter future to the country.

Ganiyu Egunjobi, the executive chairman Agege Local Government Area in his message urged residents to imbibe the spirit of love, unity and ensure peaceful coexistence for better society.

He said: “As we mark the end of Ramadan with Eid-el-Fitr celebration, I urge you all to continue with the spirit of Ramadan, and imbibe the doctrines always in our life.

“Let us continue to embrace peaceful coexistence, show love to one another and exchange pleasantries to keep us on the right track and steps towards the Almighty Allah.

“On the part of the council, the security agencies and critical stakeholders have always ensured that we enjoy the yuletide season and beyond. This can be better achieved with the collaborative efforts of the residents.

In her message, Abolanle Bada, chairman Ikosi-Isheri Local Council Development Area (LCDA), said celebrating Eid-el-Fitr was not just about feasting and festivities.

According to her, it’s a time to reflect on our shared values of compassion, kindness, and generosity.

“May this auspicious occasion bring you closer to your loved ones and strengthen the bonds of friendship and unity in our community.

“Let us cherish our differences, celebrate our similarities, and work together towards a brighter future for all,” she said.

Also, Kolade Alabi, chairman Bariga Local Council Development Area (LCDA), urged all to sustain prayers for continued peace and unity in the country.

Abdul-Hamed Salawu, chairman Shomolu Local Council Development Area (LCDA), urged the residents of the area to continue the good deeds done during Ramadan.

“Let the good deed continue for the fear of Allah and service to humanity for both Muslims and non-Muslims alike.

“Remember that the Somolu we build today is the heritage and legacy for our later generations to immortalise us.

“Let’s be positive towards governments as we strive to place our society on a global stage.

“As we celebrate Eid, let us reflect on the teachings of the Quran, which remind us to continue in performing good deeds, guided by our reverence for Allah and our commitment to serving humanity,” he said.

Adejumoke Sebanjo, the chairman Apapa Local Government Area in her message appealed to the residents of the area to embrace the spirit of unity, compassion and generosity.

“Let us embrace the spirit of unity, compassion, and generosity that defines Eid-el-Fitr, and continue to work together towards the improvement of our community.

“Specifically, to our Muslim brothers and sisters, having observed the Ramadan month with sanctity, offering of prayers and supplications, let us not throw away the gains we have made,” she said.

Similarly, Olufemi Okeowo, chairman Ifelodun Local Council Development Area (LCDA), urged love, tolerance, and peaceful coexistence after the Ramadan period.

“I enjoin all Muslims faithful to extend the spiritual benefits of Ramadan, which are love, peace, and justice to their daily living and through this, contribute to the development of the council, the state, and the country.

“It is my prayer that Ramadan’s spiritual lessons and the Holy Prophet’s teachings of piety, love, justice, fairness, equity, peaceful co-existence with others, tolerance, honesty, and dedication to duty will remain with us all“, he said.

Moyosore Ogunlewe, chairman Kosofe Local Government Area also extended warm felicitations to all Muslim faithful.

According to him, the holy month of Ramadan has once again strengthened our faith, fostered unity, and reminded us of the virtues of compassion, sacrifice, and gratitude.

“As we celebrate Eid, let us remember and continue all the good deeds during Ramadan by striving to be better versions of ourselves, focused on serving our community with dedication and sincerity.

“This Eid marks the culmination of a month-long spiritual journey, where we have purified our souls through fasting, prayers, and good deeds.

“May the blessings of this sacred occasion bring peace, prosperity, and joy to you and your loved ones. On this day of festivities, let us also remember those in need and extend a helping hand to them.

“It is through acts of kindness and generosity that we truly embody the spirit of Eid and strengthen the bonds of brotherhood,” he said.
