Kano urges residents to support waste management for cleaner city
The Kano State Refuse Management and Sanitation Board (REMASAB) says it has intensified round-the-clock waste evacuation and environmental sanitation operations across key areas of the Kano metropolis to promote a cleaner and healthier environment.
The Managing Director of the board, Muhammad Salisu-Khalil, disclosed this in a statement signed by the board’s Public Relations Officer, Abubakar Ahmad, on Tuesday in Kano.
According to the statement, “the exercise forms part of REMASAB’s sustained efforts to tackle indiscriminate waste disposal and improve environmental sanitation across the state.
”The board had recently carried out extensive waste evacuation and clean-up operations at Filin Mahaha, Kofar Naisa Park, opposite the residence of Sarkin Fadar, among other locations requiring urgent intervention.”
He said the operations were part of the board’s programme to eliminate waste accumulation and enhance environmental hygiene across the state.
Mr Salisu-Khalil further explained that the sustained sanitation campaign continued to receive positive responses from communities.
He added that Kano’s growing population and commercial activities necessitate regular waste management interventions.
The managing director appealed to residents, business owners, community leaders and other stakeholders to support the board by complying with environmental sanitation regulations and adopting proper waste disposal practices.
He said, “The responsibility of keeping Kano clean rests on all of us; residents should partner with the board in sustaining a cleaner, healthier and more prosperous state.”
