Adamawa, NIS train 120 coaches, administrators, education teachers, others

The Adamawa State Government in collaboration with the National Institute for Sports has begun five-day capacity training for 120 coaches, sports administrators, physical and health education teachers and games masters.

The state governor, Ahmadu Fintiri, who declared the training open on Tuesday in Yola, called on the participants to make good use of the knowledge they would acquire at the training.

Mr Fintiri was represented by his deputy, Prof. Kaletapwa Farauta.

The governor charged the participants to pass the knowledge acquired from the training to the younger ones.

He said that the state government invested much to organise the training, adding that it would continue to promote sporting activities for better and well informed youths.

“We expect you to acquire knowledge on sporting activities and administration,” he said.

Mr Fintiri said that the sports industry reduces criminal activities and sharpen the intellectual and the thinking faculty of sportsmen.

Earlier, the state Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Wali Yakubu, said sports was one of the eleventh agenda of Governor Fintiri`s administration.

He said that government would continue to invest in sporting activities, saying that in due course it would organise sports festival and governor’s cup competition.

The Director- General, NIS, Prof. Olawole Morenkola, who commended the state government, described sports as an instrument of fostering unity, diplomacy, peace, entrepreneurship and healthy living.

“We will do everything possible as an institute to support this state to achieve sports development” he said.
