Police arraign two vagrants for allegedly stealing plates, cups

Two vagrants, Olamide Adeshina, 30 and Kayode Olofin, 29, were on Wednesday arraigned before a Mapo Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan, Oyo State, for allegedly stealing 41 porcelain plates and 11 mug cups.
However, Mr Adeshina and Mr Olofin pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge instituted against them.
The presiding chief magistrate, O.O. Latunji, admitted the defendants to bail in the sum of N50,000 each with two reliable sureties in like sum.
Ms Latunji subsequently adjourned the matter until May 18 for the commencement of trial.
Earlier, the prosecution, led by Inspector Oluseye Akinola, informed the court that the defendants committed the crime on May 12 in the Idiodo area of Challenge, Ibadan, Oyo State.
Mr Akinola added that the duo was apprehended by the Felele division of the police patrol team at midnight while waiting for a vehicle that would convey the large carton for them.
He further stated that Mr Adeshina and Mr Olofin were arguing over how to share the stolen goods before the patrol team arrived at the scene to arrest them.
He noted that the defendants could not give any information on how they came about the carton containing 41 plates and 11 mug cups.
Mr Akinola also said that Mr Adeshina and Mr Olofin stole five plastic chairs, one hand towel, a hand grating machine and a sack.
