Maguire, Grealish missing as Gareth Southgate announces final England’s squad for Euro 2024
England’s Three Lions head coach Gareth Southgate has named the final 26-man squad for the 2024 UEFA European Championship tournament, which begins in Germany on June 14.
Southgate had initially named a 33-man preliminary squad but had to drop seven of them ahead of the June 7 deadline given to countries to submit their final squad before the opening match.
Southgate announced his final squad on Thursday. Some interesting names were dropped, including Manchester United’s Harry Maguire, who has been a regular player for England under Southgate.
Manchester City’s Jack Grealish and Tottenham playmaker James Maddison were not included. Burnley goalkeeper James Trafford, Liverpool’s Jarell Quansah, Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite and Liverpool’s Curtis Jones were also dropped.
Surprisingly, Manchester United left-back Luke Shaw, who was largely unavailable for his club in the just-concluded campaign, made the final squad, while youngsters Kobbie Maino and Adam Wharton are going to the Euro.
England is drawn Group C of the Euros alongside Slovenia, Denmark and Serbia.

Defenders: Lewis Dunk (Brighton), Joe Gomez (Liverpool), Marc Guehi (Crystal Palace), Ezri Konsa (Aston Villa), Luke Shaw (Manchester United), John Stones (Manchester City), Kieran Trippier (Newcastle), Kyle Walker (Manchester City).
Midfielders: Trent Alexander-Arnold (Liverpool), Conor Gallagher (Chelsea), Kobbie Mainoo (Manchester United), Declan Rice (Arsenal), Adam Wharton (Crystal Palace).
Forwards: Jude Bellingham (Real Madrid), Jarrod Bowen (West Ham), Eberechi Eze (Crystal Palace), Phil Foden (Manchester City), Anthony Gordon (Newcastle), Harry Kane (Bayern Munich), Cole Palmer (Chelsea), Bukayo Saka (Arsenal), Ivan Toney (Brentford), Ollie Watkins (Aston Villa).
