We’re in power, can’t burn INEC offices: APC

The All Progressives Congress (APC) says it is not responsible for the burning of INEC facilities in the South-East.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) says it is not responsible for the burning of INEC facilities in the South-East, urging President Muhammadu Buhari and security forces to take decisive steps to stop the attacks.

“The APC cannot be at home and burn its house. A winner cannot destroy the process that brought it to success.

“From the 2015 to 2019 elections, Nigerians spoke clearly through their votes for the APC by mandating us to rescue the country from the PDP’s 16-year misadventure,” said John Akpanudoedehe, the APC National Secretary.

He disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday in Abuja, reacting to the arson of INEC facilities in the South-East.

He added, “Until now, the APC had deliberately refrained from commenting on the obviously sponsored attacks on INEC facilities in order not to preempt the efforts of our security services to unravel the sponsors.

“The truth is now in the open, and our security services should act fast and decisively against these enemies of democracy and haters of a legitimately elected government.”

He described as reckless a statement from the Peoples Democratic Party accusing the APC of being responsible for the arson.

He stressed that the APC would continue to do everything necessary to ensure the country’s progress and defence of its democracy no matter the situation.

He alleged that some political parties were behind the attacks to destabilise the government. Mr Akpanudoedehe added that using lies and sponsored media attacks on Mr Buhari’s regime would not discourage it.

“There is no attempt to politicise, sponsor and weaponise insecurity as the PDP is relentlessly doing,” he said.

He, therefore, called on Nigerians to reject and resist the PDP’s antics and actions, saying that the party does not mean well for the country.
