A seven-storey building on Lagos Island has been engulfed in fire.

According to the Lagos authorities, the fire broke out on Friday morning, razing several shops.

Confirming the fire in a statement, the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service director, Margaret Adeseye, said firefighters had controlled the blaze.

Ms Adeseye stated that the agency received a distress call at Sanni Adewale Street, Lagos Island LGA, around 5:17 a.m.

“The fire affected several shops within a 7-storey building. Firefighters from the Ebute Elefun, Sari, and Lekki 1 stations promptly responded, arriving at the scene by 05:33 hours.

“Preliminary investigations suggest the fire was triggered by an electrical surge. Fortunately, no casualties have been reported,” said Ms Adeseye.
