Plateau State governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has commended Rotary International for its humanitarian interventions that have impacted the lives of many indigent people in the state.

Mr Mutfwang gave the commendation on Saturday in Jos, at the investiture of the pioneer district governor of the newly created District 9127.

Rotary International’s District 9127 comprising 16 states in northern Nigeria, was recently carved out of District 9125.

The governor, who was represented by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Ephraim Usman, hailed Rotary’s interventions in the areas of health, education, environment, among others.

He pledged to support rotary in executing some of its projects, which he described as people-orientated.

Mr Usman said, “Our desire as a government is to positively impact the lives of the Plateau people, especially the less privileged, and we are determined to achieve this. The objectives of rotary are similar to those of my administration, and we will support you in achieving set goals.’’

The pioneer district governor of District 9127, Mike Nwanoshiri, said his tenure would witness tremendous development in education, maternal, and child health within his area of coverage in the country.

He stated, “In the area of basic literacy, we intend to provide 27,000 desks to pupils across 16 states of northern Nigeria at a cost of N48 million. Another project is the provision of hospital equipment to four primary health centres as well as the renovation of some primary health care clinics in our district, and we have earmarked N40 million to achieve that. During the Rotary year, we will plant and maintain 10,000 trees as a contribution to environmental protection.’’

Mr Nwanoshiri solicited the support of rotarians and well-meaning individuals and organisations for the execution of the projects.

The guest speaker at the investiture, Luka Pampe, advised the new district governor to be just and transparent to succeed.
