A fire broke out in an industrial facility in western Ukraine due to an overnight Russian airstrike, regional authorities reported on Tuesday.

The flames engulfed a fuel tank, Viktor Masley, head of the civil defence authority in the Ternopil region, told journalists.

“No one was injured. The fire has been contained, but extinguishing efforts were still ongoing. No elevated levels of pollutants were detected, but the population was nonetheless advised to keep windows closed and avoid spending time outside for the time being. No information was given about the nature of the airstrike,’’ he said.

According to the official tally by the Ukrainian Air Force, Russia deployed 26 combat drones and five missiles against Ukraine during the night.

Twenty-five drones and three missiles were intercepted, it said.

The military data could not be verified in detail.

Part of the attack was directed against the capital, Kyiv, but all aerial objects were shot down in the surrounding area.

Meanwhile, a large Russian fuel storage facility in the Rostov region bordering Ukraine continued to burn, the state news agency TASS reported on Tuesday.

Authorities planned to deploy four firefighting aircraft to extinguish the blaze.

The facility with more than 70 tanks was set on fire by Ukrainian drones on Sunday morning.
