The Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) commends Orile Agege General Hospital (OAGH) for the just concluded week-long back-to-school medical outreach, saying it will boost the learning ability of pupils.

Hamzat Omolaja, director, social mobilisation, Lagos SUBEB, gave the commendation in an interview with the journalists on Sunday in Lagos.

The OAGH organised the programme, which was held from Aug. 19 to Aug. 23 for children aged five to 15.

It offered free eye, ear and dental checks, nutrition/diabetics awareness, paediatrics evaluation and social welfare services.

The programme, which is in its 3rd edition, recorded no fewer than 2,500 beneficiaries within and outside the community ahead of the 2024/2025 academic session beginning in September.

According to Ms Omolaja, this is a significant way of preparing children and ensuring they are in good health ahead of school resumption.

Ms Omolaja, who described the outreach as a good initiative, said the programme would go a long way to meet the child’s healthcare needs and put the learners in good shape during the academic session.

“A healthy child will learn better in the classroom and relate well with peers than the one struggling with health issues.

“This programme has been doing this for the overall healthcare of children.

“ I’m optimistic that even pupils outside this community have benefited from this laudable initiative; we recognise this goodwill and are impressed at the sustainability,” he added.

The Lagos SUBEB official enjoined parents of beneficiaries to collaborate with the efforts of OAGH management by encouraging their wards to adopt a healthy lifestyle in the house and school environment.
