Female passenger allegedly raped by Okada rider not our student: OAU

Authorities of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State, has clarified report about a motorcyclist who allegedly raped and robbed a female passenger he picked up in front of the university gate.
The management of the institution in a statement on Tuesday explained that the victim engaged the services of the motorcycle rider in front of the university main gate along Ife – Ede road, going to Moro.
The motorcyclist, identified as Damilare Jacob, was however said to have suddenly diverted into the bush where he allegedly raped and dispossessed the lady of her belongings.
Denying claims that the victim is an undergraduate of the institution, OAU Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Olanrewaju, said that “the lady did not have any affiliation with the prestigious university.”
“We have done our due diligence and the outcome of our painstaking investigation revealed that no OAU student, within or outside the campus, was involved in any form of rape or robbery,” Mr Olanrewaju said.
He implored the general public, especially the parents and guardians of students of the institution to disregard the report.
“In fact, our university is not in session and all our students, with a few exceptions, have been on holiday for almost a month now,” he noted.
The university’s spokesperson urged the media to always verify the authenticity of their stories, especially when OAU is involved.
