On Tuesday, the Chinese Commerce Ministry announced that it would open an anti-dumping investigation into Canadian exports of rapeseed and other chemical products to China.

China will conduct an anti-dumping investigation into rapeseed imports from Canada in accordance with corresponding internal legislation and regulations and World Trade Organisation rules, the ministry said.

The announcement came a week after Canada said it would impose a 100 per cent tariff on importing Chinese electric vehicles, described as discriminatory by the Chinese Commerce Ministry.

In August, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said the 100 per cent tariff on China-made electric vehicles and 25 per cent surtax on steel and aluminium imports from China aimed to curb “unfair competition’’ from Chinese producers.

Beijing vowed to take all necessary measures to protect the legitimate interests of its companies.
