Bakery worker arraigned for stealing flour

A 28-year-old bakery worker, Sarah Amos, was brought before the Magistrates’ Court in Kaduna on Thursday for stealing four bags of flour.
The defendant, who resides in the Malali area of Kaduna, is charged with theft.
The prosecution counsel, Chidi Leo, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on June 28 in Kawo, Kaduna.
Mr Leo said the defendant, who works at a bakery belonging to Garba Haruna, located along NEPA roundabout in Kaduna, stole four bags of flour worth N350,000.
The prosecution said the offence contravened Section 217 of the Kaduna State Penal Code, 2017.
Mr Amos pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Section 217 stipulates a five-year jail term for stealing.
Magistrate Ibrahim Emmanuel admitted the defendant to bail of N200,000, with one surety in like sum.
He said that the surety must be gainfully employed and must present evidence of one year’s tax payment to the Kaduna State government.
The magistrate adjourned the case until August 5 for a hearing.
