Former Nigerian Vice-President Atiku Abubakar and his children seem to have complied with the Buhari regime’s indefinite suspension of Twitter operations in Nigeria.

Mr Atiku, who has been a regular user of the social media platform to engage and defend Nigerians and advance his positions on national issues went mum after he tweeted “Hopefully, this isn’t my last tweet #smile,” shortly after the suspension was announced on Friday.

Peoples Gazette observed that some of Mr Atiku’s well-known children have also abandoned the micro-blogging platform, probably till the Buhari’s regime ends the illegal suspension of the micro-blogging platform.

Aliyu Abubakar, the son of Mr Atiku’s third wife, Princess Rukaiyatu Abubakar, just like his father stopped tweeting since Friday, after he retweeted his father’s last tweet and two others.

Similarly, Mustapha Abubakar, an educational administrator was observed to have stopped posting after retweeting a journalist’s tweet criticising the federal government’s move to ban Twitter on Friday.

“Unreal. #Nigeria Gov bans Twitter indefinitely after President Buhari’s tweet gets deleted.” the tweet read. “A nation of 200 million loses access to social platform because one man is offended.”

Adamu Abubakar, the Honourable Commissioner for Adamawa State Ministry of Works and Energy Development last tweeted on Sunday, after celebrating his mother, Amina Titi Abubakar’s birthday.

Another son of the opposition presidential candidate, Mohammed Abubakar has not been active since he retweeted Governor of Oyo, Seyi Makinde’s appeal to the federal government to reverse the suspension on Saturday.

The Buhari regime banned Twitter operations across Nigeria, forcing telecom networks to restrict access to the microblogging platform.

Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, announced the suspension in a statement signed by his media aide Segun Adeyemi, citing the persistent use of the platform for activities capable of undermining Nigeria’s corporate existence, the government said in a Twitter update.

Mr Mohammed has also directed the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) to immediately commence the process of licensing all OTT and social media operations in Nigeria, it added.

The Attorney General, Abubakar Malami has promised to prosecute those that flout the order.
