Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has called on residents of the state to embrace pig rearing and other forms of farming to boost food production in the state.

Mr Adeleke, represented by the state Commissioner for Agriculture and Food security, Tola Faseru, made the call at a one-day training and empowerment for people living with disabilities on Thursday in Osogbo.

The governor also said that with 50 per cent of Osun indigenes embracing such farming, it would reduce poverty in the state.

He said that his administration would continue to support farmers in the state to ensure food abundance and security.

According to him, the recent procurement of tractors to boost production of food and cash crops in the state attested to this fact that his administration is committed to the wellbeing of its citizens.

Also, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, Moruf Olawale, commended the governor for setting a record that no other government ever did in the sector.

Mr Olawale advised indigenes to embrace pig farming in view of its profitability and high protein content.

He noted that the event which was attended by notable pig farmers in the state was climaxed by free distribution of pig feeds to notable pig farmers by the state government.

In their separate remarks, the Special Adviser to the governor on Agriculture and Food Security, Olaniran Atidade and Director of Livestock in the ministry, Sunday Oguntoye, urged farmers not to shy away from pig farming to boost their income and food sustainability.

The event witnessed the presence of some resource persons and key stakeholders as participants.
