Court remands man over murder of grandmother

A Magistrates’ Court in Ado-Ekiti on Friday ordered the remand of a 27-year-old man, Damilare Oladele, in the correctional centre over the alleged murder of his grandmother.
The defendant, whose address was not provided, is being tried for alleged murder.
The prosecutor, Akinwale Oriyomi, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on September 26 at about 1:30 p.m. in Ado-Ekiti.
He alleged that the defendant murdered his 72-year-old grandmother, Ige Oladele.
Mr Oriyomi said the deceased told her grandson that she was hungry, while the defendant told her she was disturbing him; in the process, he pushed her away, which led to her death.
He said the offence contravened section 234 of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.
The prosecutor urged the court to remand the defendant in a correctional centre, pending legal advice from the office of the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).
The defendant’s plea was, however, not taken.
The chief magistrate, Abayomi Adeosun, ordered the defendant to be remanded in the correctional centre, pending the issuance of legal advice.
He adjourned the case till November 11 for mention.
