Operatives of the Abia State police command, Nediegoro division, on Thursday arrested two suspects and recovered firearms during a stop-and-search operation along Azikiwe by Kent Road, in Aba.
Spokesperson for the command, Maureen Chinaka, said in a statement on Thursday that the suspects are 33-year-old David Emmanuel and 25-year-old Joel Emeka, while the third suspect fled the scene.
According to Mrs Chinaka, the recovered items are one locally made pistol, one live round of ammunition, live cartridges, a small black bag and an auto rickshaw.
Mrs Chinaka said, “On 12/06/2026, operatives of the Nediegoro divisional police headquarters, while on stop-and-search duty along Azikiwe by Kent Road, Aba, intercepted an auto rickshaw.
“During the operation, one of the occupants of the vehicle fled the scene, while the other two suspects were immediately apprehended. A search conducted on them led to the recovery of the above-listed exhibits.”
She stated that the suspects are in police custody while the investigation is ongoing at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), after which they will be charged in court.
