Police nab suspects over alleged vandalism, theft of transformer cables

The police command in Niger State says it has arrested suspects over the alleged vandalism of electricity transformers in the Three-Arms Zone and other locations in Minna.
In a statement on Thursday, the command’s spokesman, Wasiu Abiodun, said the suspects were arrested at different locations in the state following credible information.
He stated that one of the suspects, Hussain Innocent, 26, of Railway Quarters, Minna, was arrested.
“The suspect was arrested for his nefarious activities in vandalizing electricity transformers with one Abubakar Rabiu of the same address,” Mr Abiodun said.
The police said that during interrogation, the suspects confessed to having engaged in the vandalism of transformers in the Three-Arms Zone and other locations in Minna.
“They mentioned Isyaku Muazu of Tudun-Natsira and Musa Haruna as the receivers of the vandalised/stolen cables. One bolt cutter was recovered as an exhibit. All suspects are under further investigation,” he said.
In a separate incident, Mr Abiodun said that on October 6, at about 5.30 p.m., a police patrol team attached to Gawu-Babangida Division, alongside vigilante members, intercepted and arrested some suspects.
The suspects included Haruna Musa, 26, of Railway Quarters; Abdulsamad Abubakar, 25; and Salisu Aminu, 35, both of Lambata.
He noted that the suspects were arrested in Lambata with some vandalised cables, bolt cutters, a knife and a torchlight.
The police said that during interrogation, it was revealed that the suspects had used the tools to vandalise three armoured cables from a transformer in the Kokogbe area of Lambata. They were subsequently charged to court.
