The Eastern Naval Command of the Nigerian Navy on Tuesday began a three-day shooting range to check its operational status as well as the professionalism of its personnel.

The exercise, which was conducted at the police shooting range at Akpabuyo Local Government Area of Cross River, on Tuesday, had participants from all the units of the command.

The Flag Officer Commanding, ENC, Rear Admiral Saheed Akinwande, said the exercise would prepare the officers for operational exigencies.

He said, “The country is facing a lot of internal security challenges and the armed forces, particularly the Navy, have a role to play. We are working to ensure security is guaranteed in Cross River and the country in general. We are working to ensure security is guaranteed in Cross River and the country in general. It is hope that at the end of this exercise, our men would have improved their operational skills and contribute their quota to guaranteeing security in the country.’’

The organiser of the exercise, Nigerian Navy Ship Victory (NNS Victory), said one of the aims was to enhance professionalism and reduce incidents from weapon handling.

The NNS Victory Commander, Commodore Rotimi Oderemi, said the exercise would henceforth be held quarterly.

He stated, “This is part of our training package and the objective is to enhance weapon handling skills of our men. It also aims to enhance their firing skills as well as to reduce incidences of fire accidents; it is part of inculcating discipline in the men.
