The police command in Ogun State has arrested a suspect, Saburi Lateef Ayinde, over the murder of a 61-year-old retired teacher, Adedotun Adeteju Oluwaseun, in Abeokuta, the state capital.

The victim was reportedly killed at her residence in Agbaakin Emere, Bode-Olude, Abeokuta, on February 27, 2026.

In a statement on Friday, Oluseyi Babaseyi, the command’s spokesman, said the suspect, popularly known as “Oki-Ocean”, was arrested on Monday following an investigation into the matter.

“The deceased’s lifeless body was discovered in the toilet of her residence on 28th February 2026, a day after she reportedly returned from a retirement celebration organised by her colleagues,” he said.

Mr Babaseyi stated that preliminary investigations indicated that the victim was allegedly strangled and attacked with a machete during an altercation with the suspect.

“The suspect reportedly confessed to the killing and linked the incident to financial dealings with the deceased, claiming that he had entrusted ₦3,450,000 to her for safekeeping, with an understanding that she would lend him ₦1,500,000 towards purchasing another vehicle,” he explained.

According to him, detectives were working to corroborate the suspect’s account and establish the full circumstances surrounding the murder.

He added that the suspect would be charged to court upon the conclusion of the investigation.
