Ayodapo Soyinka, the medical director (MD) of Alimosho General Hospital, Igando, Lagos state, says the hospital is moving in an upward trajectory due to expansion in its services to patients.

According to him, the hospital attends to no fewer than 49,000 patients on a monthly basis, in spite of the challenges in the area of staff and personnel availability.

Mr Soyinka made this known at the 7th stakeholders meeting organised by the hospital on Wednesday, with the theme “Healthcare and the Prevailing Economic Situation”.

“The last time we had this stakeholders meeting was two years again, and I can say that there have been improvements in terms of the scope of services, particularly in the surgical specialities we render to patients.

“Presently, in this facility, we have many subspecialties under surgery like orthodontics, a functional Intensive Care Unit, maxillofacial, our ENT service is back and other areas that are visible for all to see.

“So, really, we’re on the upward trajectory in terms of services, despite the constraints we have,” the MD said.

He added that the aim of the stakeholders meeting was to interact with the community and groups on how to further enhance the quality of care received by patients.

“The essence of this meeting is to serve as a platform where we can interact with the community that we serve, communicate our policies to them and get feedback on how well we have fared in the last one year.

“It’s also an opportunity to review some of the action plans from the previous meetings so that we can see what has been done, help us in policy evaluation and policy formulation and then move the hospital forward.

Femi Orebanjo, the keynote speaker at the meeting, charged stakeholders to support the hospital in its drive to ensure unhindered access to quality healthcare delivery.

Mr Orebanjo urged health personnel to be dedicated and diligent in the discharge of their duties to their patients.

Mr Orebanjo, a former medical director of Ajeromi General Hospital in Ajegunle, said healthcare was receiving more attention from the government, describing it as a plus.

“For us to get to this goal of improving health, we all have roles to play for this to become a reality in this economic situation that has increased the cost of providing the services.

” I can say categorically that his government is walking the talk because it is unprecedented in the history of health care that health is receiving as much attention now as before.

“The Babajide Sanwo-Olu-led government of Lagos has made health care a pillar in the THEMES agenda,” he said.
