The federal government says it will adopt a proactive monitoring framework to fast-track implementation of the National Council on Lands, Housing and Urban Development resolutions.

Marcus Ogunbiyi, permanent secretary at the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, said this at the 13th National Council on Lands, Housing and Urban Development meeting on Wednesday in Gombe.

The theme of the conference is “Housing the Future: Affordable Housing for Economic Growth, Climate Resilience, and Urban Development.”

He said the ministry had presented a memo seeking a mid-term monitoring of the council’s resolutions to fast-track implementation of housing and urban development programmes in the country.

“Concerned with the non-implementation of council resolutions over the years, the Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development has sponsored a memo to seek the council’s approval for mid-term monitoring of the implementation of its resolutions.

“The council’s resolutions require regular monitoring by all levels of government. The ministry’s plan is to work closely with key stakeholders on the implementation status of their relevant resolutions through periodic review sessions.

“Our collective vision is clear: a Nigeria where every citizen has access to safe, affordable housing within thriving, sustainable communities. This council is instrumental in realising that vision, and each contribution made here will impact lives and strengthen our nation’s socio-economic fabric,” he said.

He said the ministry had strived towards advancing strategic policies and initiatives to drive urban development and increase access to affordable housing for Nigerians.

According to Mr Ogunbiyi, the ministry, through ongoing projects and partnerships, demonstrated commitment to Nigerians by delivering affordable housing, improving land use policies and laying the foundation for urban communities.

He said the ministry, under the Renewed Hope Cities and Estates Housing Programme, constructed affordable houses for Nigerians nationwide.
