16,614 candidates write TRCN’s qualifying exams

She also urged the government to discontinue its policy of non-funding the TRCN and assist the council by paying workers’ salaries.

Sixteen thousand six hundred fourteen candidates have participated in the Batch ‘B’ Professional Qualifying Examination conducted by the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria across the country.

TRCN’s acting registrar, Stella Nwokeocha, who disclosed this while monitoring the examination in one of the centres in Abuja on Saturday, noted that the process has been smooth nationwide.

Ms Nwokeocha warned that any candidates caught engaging in malpractice would be stopped from continuing the exam.

She also urged the government to discontinue its policy of non-funding the TRCN and assist the council by paying workers’ salaries.

For his part, the director of ICT at the Federal Ministry of Education, Abubakar Isah, who represented the permanent secretary, Nasiru Sani-Gwarzo, praised TRCN for examining it seamlessly.

Also, Jacinta Ezeahurukwe, TRCN’s director of certification and licensing, highlighted the commission’s efforts to improve the examination process.

Ms Ezeahurukwe explained that an app to detect impersonation had been introduced for accreditation purposes.

She added that the commission is gradually transitioning to a fully online registration system by continuously improving its processes yearly.

“In the past, we manually assigned numbers to candidates, but now the process is automated, with the computer generating candidates numbers,” she said.
