U.S. President Joe Biden has announced that Israel and Lebanon have agreed to a ceasefire following days of intense conflict.

The announcement came on Tuesday after Mr Biden held talks with the leaders of both nations.

In a statement, Mr Biden revealed that he had spoken directly with the prime ministers of Israel and Lebanon, who both expressed their agreement to halt the violence.

“Today, I have good news to report from the Middle East. I have spoken to the prime ministers of Lebanon and Israel, and I am pleased to announce that they have accepted the United States’ proposal to end the devastating conflict between Israel and Hezbollah,” Mr Biden said.

The ceasefire comes after a week of heavy fighting between Israel and Hezbollah militants along the Lebanon-Israel border.

The clashes have resulted in numerous casualties and widespread destruction, drawing international concern.

Mr Biden’s announcement marks a significant step towards de-escalation in a region that has long been a hotspot for tension and violence.
