The Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN) in 12 states and the Federal Capital Territory have commenced immediate industrial action over the non-implementation of the N70,000 minimum wage.

This was announced in a statement dated November 30, 2024, and signed by the union’s secretary, MJ Akwashiki.

Affected states include Abia, Akwa Ibọn, Ebonyi, Ekiti, Enugu, Imo, Nasarawa, Katsina, Oyo, Sokoto, Yobe, Zamfara, and the Federal Capital Territory.

Mr Akwashiki noted that the industrial action was driven by the failure of concerned state governments to implement the national minimum of N70,000 as directed by the federal government.

Discussions on the implementation of the minimum wage have continued in many states since President Bola Tinubu signed it into law.

Lagos, Rivers, Bayelsa, Niger, Enugu, Akwa Ibom, Abia, Adamawa, Anambra, Jigawa, Gombe, Ogun, Kebbi, Ondo, Kogi among others have implemented the new wage.

Meanwhile, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) had directed workers in states that have yet to implement the new wage to embark on strike.

In a statement signed on Friday, NLC general secretary Emmanuel Ugboaja slammed some states for non-implementation of the minimum wage, tagging “is a blatant disregard for the law and the lives of millions of Nigerian workers.”
