The Nigerian Navy, under Operation Delta Sentinel, has recovered approximately 80,000 litres of crude oil in two separate anti-crude oil theft operations in Delta State.

Director of Naval Information, Capt. Abiodun Folorunsho, announced this in an operational report in Abuja on Tuesday.

Mr Folorunsho said NNS Delta conducted the first operation on September 21 in the Oteghele general area and discovered a large dugout reservoir containing approximately 30,000 litres of crude oil.

He added that in a separate operation on September 23, personnel recovered another 50,000 litres of crude oil in a large dugout reservoir in the Obodo Amadino general area.

He said the recovered crude oil was handled in accordance with established procedures.

The naval spokesman also said personnel of NNS Delta and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) conducted a joint operation on September 22 against suspected illicit drug activities in the Warri general area.

“The operation resulted in the arrest of three suspects and the seizure of approximately 15 kilogrammes of suspected Cannabis sativa, 0.5 gramme of cocaine and 0.5 gramme of methamphetamine (crystal meth).

“The suspects and recovered substances were handed over to the NDLEA for further investigation and necessary action”, he said.

According to Mr Folorunsho, the combined operations demonstrate the navy’s ability to address multiple dimensions of maritime and coastal insecurity, while leveraging inter-agency cooperation to disrupt criminal activity within its area of responsibility.
