GOC donates electric motorcycles to soldiers in Jos

The General Officer Commanding, 3 Division of the Nigerian Army, Rukuba, near Jos, Plateau State, Maj.-Gen. Abdulsalam Abubakar, has donated electric motorcycles to 16 outstanding soldiers in Jos, Plateau State..
Presenting the motorcycles to the beneficiaries on Wednesday, Mr Abubakar said that the gesture was aimed at promoting hard work among the troops.
The GOC, who doubles as the Commander, Operation Safe Haven (OPSH), said that the gesture aligned with the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Olufemi Oluyede’s drive toward sound administration and promoting the welfare of troops.
He also said that electric motorcycles would also promote an eco-friendly environment within the cantonment.
He stated, “The decision to provide electric motorcycles to deserving soldiers is a strategic move to reduce dependence on fossil fuel by personnel. This also underscores the division’s commitment to environmental sustainability. The electric motorcycles, which have a maximum speed of 40 kilometers per hour, can cover a distance of 100km when fully charged for a period of two hours. It is both efficient and eco-friendly, and will serve as a sustainable mode of transportation within this cantonment, whilst helping to minimise the division’s carbon footprint and supporting a cleaner and greener Nigeria.’’
Mr Abubakar said that the gesture, initiated by his predecessor, would reduce the cost of transportation for the beneficiaries.
The GOC, who promised to sustain the initiative, thanked the COAS for approving the donation, adding that it would further motivate the troops of the division.
He, however, called on the troops to be committed and dedicated to their duties, assuring that diligent and hardworking ones would be rewarded.
Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, Warrant Officer, Ibrahim Fidelis, thanked the COAS and the GOC for the gesture, saying that it would spur them into performing their duties diligently and efficiently. (NAN)
