Jamaican reggae star Fantan Mojah dies at 49
Jamaican Reggae singer Fantan Mojah has died just three weeks before his 50th birthday.
The 49-year-old singer passed away on Tuesday at the University Hospital of the West Indies in Kingston after suffering heart-related complications.
According to his close associates, the singer’s health deteriorated rapidly in the days before his demise.
He was said to be preparing to perform at this year’s Reggae Jam Festival in Germany.
In a tribute, Ub40 Ali Campbell, described Mr Mojah’s demise as a sad development.
“Very sad news. Rest in peace Fantan Mojah. An incredible artist and pillah within the Reggae community! Thank you for the music,” Mr Campbell wrote.
The deceased singer had experienced serious health problems in recent years. In 2024, he was hospitalised in Martinique after suffering breathing difficulties related to breathing tight chest.
He got back to his feet last year and resumed musical tour of Europe.
Mr Mojah was renowned for his powerful delivery and spiritually charged reggae songs and built massive following through songs that blended Rastafarian teachings, social commentary and emotional intensity.
Some of his tracks include “When I Rise,” “Hail the King,” “Nuh Build Great Men and Stronger” and “Rasta Got Soul.”
