Fulani leaders have thrown their weight behind the fight against bandits in Kebbi amid the latest mass abduction of schoolchildren.

Bandits kidnapped an unspecified number of students and teachers of Government College, Birnin Yauri, on June 17.

The Director-General of the Fulani leaders in Kebbi, Bello Aliyu-Gotomo, told Governor Atiku Bagudu that they represented all Fulanis across the state’s 21 local government areas.

He stated this during a courtesy visit to the governor. Mr Aliyu-Gotomo said their visit was to support and commend the governor for his determination to check the activities of bandits in the state.

In his remarks, the secretary of the Fulani leaders, Abubakar Bello-Ardo, assured the Kebbi governor of their cooperation of joining and supporting the government towards rescuing the abducted schoolchildren.

Mr Bagudu appealed to Nigerians to support security agencies in their effort to check the security challenges

bedevilling the country.

Mr Bagudu, represented by his security adviser Garba Rabi’u-Kamba, stressed the need for people to provide security agents with useful information that would aid them in their efforts to rid the country of criminals.

The governor commended communities and groups in Kebbi for showing solidarity and support in the face of attacks by bandits in the state.

He described the visit as a morale booster, assuring that his government is intensifying efforts to ensure the safety of lives and property.

Mr Bagudu also commended other groups, such as the hunters association and vigilance groups, for their support and commitment to the fight against bandits.
