The police command in Kogi says gunmen abducted the principal of Government Secondary School, Odo-Ekina, and four students sitting the National Examinations Council examination on Tuesday.
A NECO ad hoc staffer was also abducted during the attack in the school at the Dekina council area.
A statement on Wednesday by the command’s spokesperson, Salisu Oyiza, said the abduction occurred on Tuesday at about 5:25 p.m. when the students were writing their exam.
“During the incident, four students, the school principal and one NECO ad hoc staff member were abducted by the attackers.
“A combined team of the police and other security agencies immediately launched a search-and-rescue operation and is currently on the trail of the assailants,” she said.
Ms Oyiza said one of the abducted students had been rescued, while efforts were ongoing to secure the safe release of the remaining victims and apprehend the perpetrators.
She added that the police commissioner, Naziru Kankarofi and the security adviser to Governor Ahmed Ododo were on their way to the scene for an on-the-spot assessment.
