The Federal Road Safety Corps has deployed 1,596 personnel, including regular and special marshals, to various locations in Delta to ensure safety during the Christmas and New Year celebrations.

Sector commander Frederick Ogidan said this in an interview on Thursday in Asaba.

Mr Ogidan said that a total of 1,596 personnel, 20 operational vehicles, two ambulances, two power bikes, and others would be deployed across the state.

“There will be two critical routes to be manned, five traffic control camps will be set up, and two help areas.

“A 70-ton tow truck and four private tow trucks will be deployed for operation zero tolerance to reduce road traffic crashes in Delta state,” he said.

The sector commander said there would be 24-hour traffic monitoring and calming on all major roads using red flags on the highway.

“Mobile courts will be in session on the major roads and targeted offences will be overloading, excessive speed, dangerous/ reckless driving.

“Driving under the influence of alcohol and other illicit substances.

“Distressed or stranded motorists in the event of road traffic crash should call our 122 toll-free number for immediate help,” he said.

He urged motorists to drive cautiously and pay attention to other road users.

“Even the passengers should not board overloaded vehicles. They should talk to the driver and if he is not listening they should drop at the next available bus stop.

“They can alert any FRSC officials or security agency on the road,” he said.
