Insecurity: Oyo to register residents

Oyo State Government has concluded plans to register all residents of the state in order to address insecurity in the state, says Bayo Akande, a Special Assistant to Governor Seyi Makinde on ICT.
Mr Akande, who briefed reporters on Tuesday in Ibadan said, “This is in a bid to secure the state to know the people coming in and out of the state and this will enable the government to plan more effectively.” The governor’s aide hinted that the Oyo State Residents registration programme, will help the government to focus on planning and revenue generation for the state.
“It is a programme that involves the enumeration and registration of all residents of Oyo State,” he said.
“This will also help in revenue collection so that we can bring in more residents under the Oyo State tax net.”
Amidst the rising security challenges in the country, state governors are beginning to create systems that will capture the database of residents.
On May 10, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu informed residents that the Lagos State Residents Card will be re-introduced into the system to generate residents’ database which will be part of the state’s security architecture.
