A mother and son, who allegedly assaulted their husband and father, respectively, have appeared before the Ojo Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.

The defendants, Chukwudi Igbonekwu, 19, and Ngozi Igbonekwu, 49, were charged before a magistrate, L.K.J Layeni, with a five-count charge bordering on conspiracy, assault, threat to life, willful damage, and causing a breach of peace.

They each, however, pleaded not guilty to all the counts.

The prosecutor, ASP Simon Uche, told the court that the defendants committed the offence on January 18 at the Iyana Itire area of Ajangbadi in Ojo.

He alleged that following a disagreement, the mother and her son conspired to assault the complainant, one Edwin Igbonekwu (their husband and father respectively).

The defendants were alleged to have pulled down the compound gate, rained several blows on the complainant, and violently threatened to kill him.

The prosecution also alleged that the duo caused a breach of peace by pouring remnants from a bottled mineral on the body of the complainant.

The offence contravenes the provisions of sections 58, 168, 172, 350, and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.

The court granted the defendants bail of N200,000 each, with two sureties each in like sum.

The magistrate adjourned the case until February 19 for trial.
