The Kano State Ministry of Lands and Physical Planning says it has so far re-certified over 2,000 certificates of occupancy under its re-certification of titled documents programme.

The commissioner for lands and physical planning, Abduljabbar Umar, said this while addressing journalists in Kano on Friday.

“Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf officially flagged off the recertification of titled documents in Kano State on November 25, 2024, and ever since, we have recertified over 2,000 CofOs, and we are still counting.

“We have equally begun the processing of systematic land title registration (SLTR) documents so as to be given regular Cofos,” Mr Umar said.

He also said the ministry had so far received over one million distinct re-certification-related interactions.

Mr Umar said they ranged from conversion, name change to actual re-certification applications since December 18.

He said the January 31 deadline for the re-certification of the titled documents remains unchanged.

The commissioner, therefore, urged those who had yet to recertify their documents to do so before the deadline.

“We strongly encourage everyone to hurry and recertify their title documents or process the new title documents before the 31st of January 2025 to avoid any unpleasant experience.

“It is vital to mention the tremendous effort being made to begin sectional titling in the state, which is set to begin anytime from now.

“This will ease the ownership of businesses in conglomerates as well as in housing estates, plazas, blocks of flats, and markets. It will also enhance the IGR of the state,” he said.
