Man, 21, in court for allegedly stabbing neighbour over security bills

A 21-year-old man, John Idonesit, on Thursday appeared before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stabbing his neighbour with a broken bottle.

The defendant, a casual worker, who resides at No. 40, Oba Dosunmu St., GRA in Ikeja, is facing a two-count charge of grievous harm and damages.

The prosecutor, Inspector Olusegun Oke, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on December 16, 2024 at his residence.

Mr Oke said that a fight ensued between the complainant, Anthony Etuk, and the defendant over none payment of security bills.

The prosecutor said that the defendant broke a bottle and stabbed the complainant in the neck.

“The complainant bled profusely, and was rushed to the hospital,” he said.

Mr Oke said that the defendant also damaged the complainant’s Samsung phone valued at N110, 000.

The offences, according to the prosecutor, contravene Sections 173 and 350 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Magistrate, T. O Fashanu, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.

Mr Fashanu adjourned the case until February 17 for mention.
