An entrepreneur, Victor Oluwafemi, on Thursday launched radio and television stations in Lagos.

The media organisation, operating Souq TV and Isle 104.9 FM, has stations in Lagos and Kano.

Mr Oluwafemi, who is the Executive Director, Femywalsh Nigeria Limited, said that the stations would be dedicated to promoting business, good governance, economy and development.

This, he said, was aimed at helping those sectors grow and promote government programmes and policies in those areas.

“We are here to fill that vacuum that has not been occupied by any media platform. We are presently in Lagos while our Kano station will be launched in May, with a 72 staffers respectively. Getting manpower was the biggest challenge I ever faced; we need people that are passionate about journalism, because journalism is about passion” he said.

Mr Oluwafemi, however, advised that media organisations should learn how to collaborate or go into partnership and drop supremacy status to achieve a common goal.

Launching the station, the Prelate, Methodist Church of Nigeria, Oliver Aba, said that whatever had the foundation of God would never fail.

Mr Aba, represented by Director of Administration of the church, Uche Onukwube, offered special prayers for the continued growth of the organisation.

Speaking at the occasion, a Nollywood actor and film-maker, Raphael Niyi, reiterated that the role of the media was to educate, entertain and inform.

Niyi, however, stated that many people believed that with the advent of social media, mainstream media were no longer viable.

“For the entrepreneur to launch a media organisation tells you that the strength of the terrestrial media station is not dead; that we can only pray and hope that this generates more attraction,” he said.

The filmmaker suggested possible collaboration between Nollywood and the media outfit, saying that it was necessary.

In his remarks, an ex-service man and father of the media organisation owner, Pa Oluwafemi Ajayi, said that his son was motivated into establishing the media organisation to further enhance the country’s unity.

An elated Ajayi said that he was hopeful that Nigerians would unite more and that there would be peace in the land.
