The Minister of Labour and Employment, Muhammad Dingyadi, has reassured the organised labour of President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to fostering industrial peace and harmony.

Mr Dingyadi made this statement during a friendly visit to the president of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Joe Ajaero, in Abuja on Thursday.

He emphasised that the visit aimed to sustain the positive working relationship and peace between organised labour and the federal government under Mr Tinubu’s administration.

“We have never had it so good. I want to appreciate you and your members for keeping this flag flying. This is the second time we’re engaging, and our discussions have been smooth, peaceful, and fruitful.

“I believe we’ve put behind us the era of demonstrations and protests. This administration, led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, is committed to listening to labour organisations, particularly the NLC.

“Misunderstandings and crises arise only when we stop listening to each other,’’ he said.

The minister appealed to Mr Ajaero to continue displaying the same decorum to maintain peace and harmony within the labour sector. He reiterated the administration’s commitment to fostering a robust relationship between labour and employers in the public and private sectors.

Mr Dingyadi also commended the NLC for stepping back from their planned protest over the proposed increase in telecom tariffs.

“What happened a few days ago, when you suspended your planned protest over the telecom tariff hikes, was very encouraging. We had open, frank discussions, and you appreciated our position and quickly reached an agreement,” he said.

The minister also reaffirmed President Tinubu’s commitment to ensuring peace and stability in the labour sector, which was essential for the country’s economic growth and development.

He urged all labour sector stakeholders to avoid unnecessary issues leading to industrial disputes. He assured that the federal government would continue to find timely solutions to labour challenges.

In his response, Mr Ajaero thanked the minister for the visit, highlighting that it demonstrated Dingyadi’s readiness and commitment to effectively carrying out his responsibilities.

“For a long time, we’ve lacked leaders who have the country’s best interests at heart, but you’ve shown today that you’re ready to work. From the spirit you’ve displayed, I am confident we will achieve a lot together,” Mr Ajaero said.
