Ogun orders residents to relocate from flood prone areas

Ogun State Government has ordered residents to relocate from identified flood prone zones in five local government areas to a safer place in order avert imminent disaster.
This followed the prediction of Nigerian Meteorological Agency that there will be heavy rainfall between July and September this year in the state.
The Special Adviser to the state governor, Ola Oresanya, gave the directive during a ministerial press briefing held on Tuesday at the Olusegun Osoba Press Centre in Abeokuta.
According to Mr Oresanya, relocation becomes inevitable in order to avoid the severe impact of the anticipated flooding.
Mr Oresanya further explained that the level of rainfall per day during the months would be more than 30mm per day.
He admitted that the yearly rainfall is a natural occurrence in the state, therefore residents in some identified areas within the two Local Government Areas of Abeokuta metropolis; Ifo; Obafemi Owode and Odeda to vacate their abodes temporarily for a safe environment pending when the expected flooding lasts.
