The federal government has reaffirmed its commitment to reviving all abandoned federal projects in Adamawa.

Khadijat Omotayo, the president’s personal assistant on constituency affairs, made this known during a stakeholders’ meeting at the Government Banquet Hall on Tuesday in Yola.

She reiterated the president’s resolve to foster development in Adamawa, noting that efforts are ongoing to enhance infrastructure, boost economic growth, and improve the quality of life for residents.

According to her, the president’s initiatives include upgrading the state’s infrastructure, such as roads, bridges, and public buildings, and supporting small business entrepreneurs and farmers to create jobs and stimulate economic growth.

“The president is also committed to improving access to quality education and healthcare services, ensuring that Adamawa State has the skills and knowledge needed to compete with the modern economy,” she said.

Governor Ahmadu Fintiri, in his remarks, described the federal government’s intervention as a welcome development, stressing that the state government does not have abandoned projects.

He said contracts are awarded with financial prudence and only when at least 75 per cent of the required funds are available before execution.

The governor decried the poor state of federal roads in Adamawa, describing them as “death traps” riddled with potholes.

Mr Fintiri took the opportunity to appeal to the Minister of Works for urgent federal intervention to rehabilitate the affected roads.

Also speaking, the Hama Bachama, Daniel Shaga, represented by Aguso Bamaiyi, raised concerns over the annual flooding from the River Benue, which has continued to wreak havoc on communities in the state.

Mr Shaga lamented that no concrete action had been taken to mitigate the flooding despite previous commitments.

He urged the federal government to revisit the environmental impact study conducted before the construction of Cameroon’s Lagdo Dam and implement its recommendations.

Mr Shaga further expressed concerns over farmland invasions by herders, leading to the destruction of crops without compensation for affected farmers.

“I appeal to the federal government to look into the situation of territorial farm invasions and destructions without compensation to farmers. This has led many farmers to drop below the poverty line,” he said.

Mr Shaga called on the federal government to take decisive action against illegal mining operations and implement measures to curb rising inflation, which has continued to strain livelihoods.
