Impeached Speaker of the Lagos State Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, who reinstated himself on Thursday held a plenary with only four members.

Mr Obasa in company of security operatives stormed the complex before holding plenary at 2.p.m.

Mr Obasa had earlier announced his return as speaker, arguing that while impeachment was a constitutional and democratic process, it must be carried out following laid down procedures.

He said, “I’ve never been removed. Impeachment or removal is democratic and constitutional, but in doing that, you must follow due process. I am not against that. If I do that, then I am not a democrat.”

However, over 26 assembly members of the 40-member house, who were on the assembly premises, stayed away having pledged their support for Mojisola Meranda, as the newly inaugurated speaker.

Mr Obasa’s action came after Mr Tinubu allegedly ordered his reinstatement and the resignation of elected speaker, Mojisola Meranda, while the Governance Advisory Council could not overrule President Tinubu.
