Zamfara AGILE lauds communities over girls’ enrollment in schools
The Zamfara State Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) project has commended the Shobanke and Sabongida communities in Gusau and Bungudu local government areas for their participation in enhancing girl-child school enrollment.
The state’s AGILE coordinator, Sa’adatu Abdul-Gusau, made the commendation on Friday at the launch of enrollment for out-of-school adolescent girls in the two communities.
AGILE is a World Bank intervention project aimed at reducing adolescent out-of-school girls.
The state AGILE office supported enrollment in the Shobanke community in collaboration with the Zamfara Social Protection Platform (ZSPP), a state-based Civil Society Organisation (CSO).
The enrollment of 200 children in the Sabongida community was also supported by the state AGILE office in collaboration with the Students Representative Council (SRC), Federal University Gusau chapter.
The AGILE coordinator described the initiative as a welcome development and said the move aligns with the state government’s mission to have communities taking ownership of education in their respective areas.
Ms Abdul-Gusau added, “The AGILE project is targeting enrollment of thousands of out-of-school adolescent girls in Zamfara.
“Since inception, we embarked on constant engagement of stakeholders to ensure community ownership of education initiatives.”
According to her, the initiative is in line with the commitment of Governor Dauda Lawal’s administration to enhance girl child education in the state.
“I am very happy that I witnessed the launch of the enrollment of 112 out-of-school girls in the Shobanke community and another event for the enrollment of more than 200 adolescent girls in the Sabongida community.
“We are happy with the continuous understanding, participation and commitment by our communities,” she said.
She commended traditional rulers and other stakeholders for their support to the state AGILE office in enhancing girl-child education and urged parents and guardians to support their children to continue their education.
