20-year-old Nigerian nabbed for pounding mother to death with pestle

The police command in Bauchi says it arrested Safiyanu Dalhatu for killing his mother, Salama Abdullahi, with a heavy pestle.
In a statement on Tuesday, a spokesperson for the command, Ahmed Wakil, said the Peace and Security Committee operatives in the Abujan Kwata area reported the incident to the ‘A’ Divisional Police Headquarters penultimate Monday.
He said a team of detectives led by the Divisional Police Officer, Abdullahi Muazu, went to the scene and took the victim to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Teaching Hospital, Bauchi, where doctors pronounced her dead.
“Initial investigations suggest that the altercation between the suspect and his biological mother precipitated the assault,” said the statement. “The suspect has been apprehended, and the pestle used in the incident has been recovered and documented as exhibits.”
Meanwhile, police commissioner Auwal Muhammad has ordered an investigation into the case.
