18-year-old arraigned for alleged theft of items worth N2.4 million

An 18-year-old man, Usman Kowi, was on Wednesday arraigned before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court for an alleged house breaking and stealing of property worth N2.4 million
The defendant, whose home address was not provided, is standing trial on a two-count charge of housebreaking and stealing.
The prosecutor, Olasunkanmi Bamikole, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on March 3 at about midnight in Ado-Ekiti.
He alleged that the defendant broke into the home of one Yusuf Oluwatimileyin and stole one HP laptop, play station 4, four pairs of shoes and a passport, all valued at N2.4 million.
Mr Bamikole said that the offence contravened Section 325 and 302(1)(a) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State 2021.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred against him.
The prosecutor asked the court for an adjournment to enable him to study the case file and assemble his witnesses.
Counsel to the defendant, Emmanuel Adedeji, urged the court to grant the defendant bail, with a promise that he would not jump bail.
The Chief Magistrate, Adefunke Anoma, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N20,000 with one surety in like sum.
She adjourned the case until April 3 for hearing.
