The European Union has received no information from the United States regarding the progress of Ukraine negotiations between President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday.

The EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas said that the EU was working to arrange talks to gather first-hand information.

She said they had already been in contact with Ukrainian officials, who had been reluctant to comment on the phone call, during which Mr Trump sought to convince Mr Putin to agree to a ceasefire in the war.

Ms Kallas assessed the information publicly released by Russia and the U.S. as evidence that “Russia does not want to make any concessions.

“Right now, it’s a question, what is going to happen,” she said.

During a high-stakes phone call on Tuesday, Mr Trump urged Mr Putin to agree to a comprehensive ceasefire.

However, the only agreement reached was that Russia would refrain from attacking Ukraine’s energy facilities for 30 days if Ukraine reciprocated.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said his country supported the idea but needed more details about the exact terms of the agreement between Mr Trump and Mr Putin.

Ms Kallas also described Russia’s demands to halt Western military aid to Ukraine as unacceptable.

“They have to be ready to defend themselves. And the strongest security guarantee there is a strong Ukrainian army,” she said.
