A man, Jacob Ugbede, on Tuesday, appeared before a Mararaba Magistrates’ Court, over alleged forgery of company compliance documents.

Ugbede of Behind USV Plaza, Abacha Road, pleaded not guilty to the three-count charge of criminal breach of trust, cheating and forgery preferred against him.

The Prosecution Counsel, Ben Adah, told the court that the complainant, Gbenga Mosaku of City College Mararaba reported the matter at Mararaba Police Station on September 19, 2025.

Adah said that on January 9, 2025, Mosaku contacted the defendant to assist in procuring company compliance documents valued N4.185 million.
The prosecutor alleged that the defendant received the said amount, converted it and produced fake company compliance documents given to the complainant.

Adah further stated that the defendant criminally conspired with three others, namely Jonathan, Fred Daniel and Jonathan Major, all at large, to commit the offences.

He added that out of the 18 documents paid for, the defendant was only able to produce six original company compliance documents.

Adah told the court that during police investigation the defendant claimed that the money given to him by Mosaku was not enough, that was why he delivered the fake documents.

The prosecutor said the offence contravened the provision of sections 312, 322, and 364 of the penal code.

The Chief Magistrate, Joy Faruk, admitted the defendant to N100,000 bail and with a surety in like sum.

Ms Faruk said that the surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and adjourned the matter until August 4 for hearing.
